My latest news is that Sama weighs 76.6 snugable pounds! We go to puppy agility every Monday when Samamama comes home from work. I am the best puppy in the class, also I am the biggest boy in the class.

Sama is not a political puppeh....however, you DID say that your daughers could have a dog when you move to the White House....Don't you think they would like a cute little sweet puppehhhh like me??? (See photos :-) )

I know where you could find one. Pleazzzzze consider adopting a rescue or shelther dog! It would say soooooo much to all of us who don't have nice little girlz to play with or a nice comfortable home or enough kibbles each day......

Teaching Mama new tricks!

SamaMama isn’t as slow as I thought! She is pretty slow, though!... Finally, I taught her a new trick.

Every evening when SamaMama and Daddy get home from work, they take me out for a quick break (OK, you know what I’m talkin about) Then they settle down for a little bit and watch the TV. Since, I can’t seem to get them to change the channel to what I like to watch. I hop up on the couch and settle in to do a bit of chewing. SamaMama gives me a nice toasty, crunchy ear to chew and when I get bored with that she gives me a carrot to chew. (I think I was a pony in a past life :-)

I wait until she’s not paying any attention to me, then I flip my carrot off the couch and look down at it… just hanging my little head, wishing I had my carrot back… Then SamaMama picks it up and gives it back to me. Then I practice.

Throw it down… she fetches it.

Gooood SamaMama!

OK – Fetch again!

We practice every day for at least 15 minutes two or three times. Pretty soon, she’ll have “Fetch” down perfectly!

I've been having some fun lately. Samamama bought me a new kind of toy last weekend. She bought a scent training dummy. Have you ever seen one? If not here's a picture.

She also bought some rabbit scent. Here's what we do....

I go wait inside my crate. Samamama puts a few drops of scent on a dummy, then drags the dummy in a very simple path in the back yard - well, the path does have one or two turns, but I am just learning to play this game!

Next, she puts me on a 20 foot long canvas leash and brings me outside the door where the trail begins. Then she says, "Sama, Find It!" and off I go... sniff, sniff sniff... I criss-cross the path until the scent is strong then I follow it until I find the dummy. Then Samamama gets all excited and says, "Good job! Yahoooo what a great puppy!" and we run around and jump all happy.

After I play I want to take a tiny nap... so I tippy toe off to a bed (if no one catches me, I love to snooze there!)

I am a little sad tonight.... SamaMama just told me my twin sister Lucy's forever home didn't work out and they returned her to the rescue!!! I'm very happy that Brooke's Legacy Animal Rescue keeps her safe, but my Lucy needs her forever home. I was wondering if you might be able to help her? If you could tell people that are interested in adopting a puppy about her, or maybe you would like to be her forever home. She really needs to find the kind of love in a forever home like the one I have with SamaMama, Daddy, and Uncle Peter. My Lucy needs a LucyMama/daddy too. Please can't somebody help my Lucy?? Sama is "Official" Today

Today I went to see Dr. Sutton. SamaMama asked for a MicroChip. Awe... that didn't hurt a bit. I can feel it, though. Kind of like something's there.... After we left Dr. Sutton's, SamaMama took my rabies certificate to Animal Control (I won't even ASK, what that means!!!) and picked up my license. She told them that I just got a MicroChip and the lady at Animal Control added that to my license information in case I ever can't find my way home.

I weighed in today at just over 35 lbs! Growing, growing boy...

My eyes have been bothering me just a bit lately, so now I have some medicine for them. It's nothing "catchy," so SamaMama says we can still go to Companion Dog Training tomorrow so I can meet Ms. Coralie! I am VERY excited about that!

Here I am again! Maybe you can see how much I’ve grown. I am now well over 20 pounds and I think I look so much more grown up. Although, I still love to be rocked in a rocking chair. It seems to calm me down when I get too “zippy.”

Back on the Right Track

I’ve calmed down a lot since the day before yesterday. Everyone has calmed down. I now understand that the people in the house have very fragile skin and it is not as much fun to play nip and grab games, like I could with other dogs. The people give me lots of nice pets and treats and attention when I do not grab at them.

SamaMama has a new game for us to play. “How Long Can We Sit Still and Look at Each Other? So far, I’m winning by at least three or four and I only lost when we first started playing. (She can only sit still less than a minute before she smiles and says, “Good sit!” and gives me a treat.) Once I caught on to this game, I win EVERY time!

Hey, have you seen my Daily Puppy webpage? (It’s kind of like a MySpace for puppies!) I have a few friends there now and I have my own photo album.

Vet again today

OK - this just isn't fair, at all. I was havin' fun biting and chewing SamaMama's arms when we play. Only the game is over now because Dr. Sutton says, "No more of this."

I had to go today to get another shot so I can be safe. And the SamaMama told them that she's just getting too chewed up (it's only her arms, legs, and hands, oh yeah, and clothes). Dr. Sutton worked with me a bit (I already knows how to SIT). She was giving me treats when I did what she says (and I understood every word they were saying about how cute I am and how BIG I grew...). The problem came when SamaMama and Daddy came to get me and Dr. Sutton showed them all the tricks to stoppin my nippin. Oh well... at least she told them how to make it all fun. We'll see how it goes. I know they love to give me some hugs and kisses when they get home... I don't think ignoring me when they get home is going to be too easy.

Puppy Kindergarten

Every Tuesday evening I go to Puppy Class at Petco. I really like my teacher! The first week I was there, I learned "sit, stay, and touch." The second week I was there we walked around the store on a leash and I learned, "down."

SamaMama and I practice every day lots of times. I am very good with all the words I learned, but there are other things that I do that are much harder for the SamaMama to deal with! She is trying to "teach" me to inhibit my bite. I don't get it really.... She is like the bestest chew toy I ever had and she squeaks and move so quickly but I am much, much faster. I am trying to teach her that she has to play when I want!

Daddy is the one that won't let me get away with it. Uncle Peter says, No! very loud and serious, and then makes me stay in time out. So, I don't grab at them much anymore, but I think I am much smarter than SamaMama! (teehee haha, nom nom nom taste good!)

Sama's First Visit With His New Vet

When I first went to my home, I was taken to meet Dr. Sutton. I weighed 13.2 pounds. I got my second round of puppy shots and they tested me for worms. Ooopss, the poops got worms! Yessiree. I came to my new home with a little case of pesky roundworms and that’s why I was a tad bit skinny with my little round puppy belly.

I didn’t like it at all when Uncle Peter gave me medicine every single day for two whole weeks! I’m glad he did though because after two weeks SamaMama scooped my morning poop into a baggy and took it to Dr. Sutton, who said Sama has no more worms!

After that, I began to grow pretty fast! They weighed me and now I’m up to 22.8 pounds! I can’t wait to see how surprised Dr. Sutton will be when she sees me next week!

Sama Finds His Forever Home

Hi there, everyone! My name is Sama and I am an Australian Shepherd mix puppy. I just came to my forever (and ever) home a couple of weeks ago. Now that I’ve settled down some, I can tell you my story.

My new mom (I call her SamaMama, but she doesn’t know that) was very sad because her other “son” went to the Rainbow Bridge in June. (She says I have two brothers that I’ll meet there someday a long, long, long, long, long, time from now.) SamaMama went on to the Internet every day after Tom went to the Rainbow Bridge and looked at all the dogs and puppies that don’t have homes. She was sadder and sadder because she couldn’t find any puppy pictures that made her happy. She says she was looking for a very special puppy or dog. Then one day she found a link to a nice rescue group in SW Florida. It's a group called Brooke's Legacy Animal Rescue.

The rescue group put my picture on their website and that’s how SamaMama found me. She knew she found me when she kept coming back to my picture every day and emailing questions to my rescue group about me. I still miss my foster mom, but SamaMama cheers me up and likes to snuggle and play with me all the time (until I get crazy, crazy, run, run, jump – then she says that I need to settle down and take a nap.)

In my new home there are 3 grown up people. SamaMama, Daddy, and Uncle Peter. During the day I keep Uncle Peter company. I spend mornings, evenings, (at night I sleep) and weekends with SamaMama and Daddy.
The first few days I was kind of quiet and friendly then once I realized no one was gonna hurt the puppy (me), I really decided it was OK to just be me. Funny thing is they STILL love me. Although SamaMama has little puppy teeth marks all over her arms and legs now. That’s because we play a lot and it’s soooo hard for me not to grab at her when I’m excited and playing. She says “Ouch!” when I do that, but I like it because she sounds like one of my squeak toys, only louder and she tastes better than plastic!
